This is a case of a man obsessed, and a victim of the times. He was an inventor that saw the tremendous potential in rubber, and spent his entire life in this pursuit. Living in perpetual bankruptcy, he was thrown in debtor’s prison many times. In 1837, his experiments led him to Staten Island,
